About Me

I’m a little long-winded about things, which you may have guessed from reading any of my blog entries, but I’ll try to make this short and sweet. Just some general semantic knowledge to begin with. My name is David Thomas Porter, and I go by Dave, D-Port and a few other pseudonyms that I don’t intend to share for fear that they’ll gain further popularity. I’m currently an undergrad at University of Maryland Baltimore County, studying Graphic Design. Yes, I capitalize “Graphic Design.” It is, after all, serious business. When I’m not doing my “Graphic Design” thing, I’m probably making music, eating pizza and perfecting comedy routines that have absolutely no merit whatsoever. Oh yeah, and I love taking pictures. The camera is practically a third eye that comes out of my pocket and blinks a couple times when I see an amazing shot. I was born in 1987 and grew up in rural Maryland where the pollution level is low and kids pull donuts in their pickup trucks as a weekend thrill. So I’m no urbanite, but I love urban design styles (go figure).

That all being said, I’ll throw in some useless information that might only be noteworthy within the context of this blog – I like to be deep about things. Not that kind of deep that is so deep that you can say whatever the heck you want because everybody lost you at the first sentence. I like to reason things out and dissect the nature of our daily perception of reality. Art and design, after all, are perceived with the same eyes that perceive leaves on trees. The same goes for the mind and visual/mental associations that require personal input and context. But enough of that – that sort of jabber is for the blog, not the bio. Just think of it as a sample, a warning to let you know what you’re getting into. I wanted to make sure you understood that I really have something to say once in a while. Whether people find it interesting or not is up to them. It’s your internet connection. Shut me down or add me to your favorites – I couldn’t care less, and I mean that in a nice, friendly not-in-your-face way.

I just about lumped the purpose of this blog into that last paragraph. To give it its own paragraph seems a bit much, so I’ll boil it down into one sentence. This blog is about art, how we perceive it and how it draws inspiration from nature and the imagination. Generic? Yes. But it’s coming from me, which kind of puts a different spin on it. So, I guess I should add that to the sentence. Okay, let’s try this again. This blog is about art, how we perceive it and how it draws inspiration from nature and the imagination as it pertains to Dave Porter’s experiences and observations. Better? A little, maybe. Just read the blog, I guess. I can’t lump it into a single sentence, really. I mean, I tried, and look where I am? This paragraph’s about as long as the last one. Pathetic. Well, so much for that. Here’s the blog. Enjoy!
